行程开关就是一般所说的限位开关。可以理解为是一组接通或断开的简单电路。
“用来检测物体是否移动到限定的位置”，例如，机床的移动工作台上装撞块，相对不动的床身上装行程开关，当机床工作台移动预先设定的距离后，工作台上的撞块压动床身上安装的行程开关，行程开关断开或接通，就有电信号反应到控制柜中，工作台停止移动或反向移动。

常开与常闭是开关的两种原始状态，常开型一般指没有压下的状态电路是开通的，常闭型一般指没有压下的状态电路是断开的。根据需要来进行选择，开关的常开点断开或常闭点闭合。

常开接点：在不受外力（包括电力）的作用下，开关断开的，就是常开接点。
